Hello all,I normally only send out one mail per month, but this month we have some exciting news that just can't wait!1) We have a new addition to the Primal Staff - Tim Hotchin.Tim is a fully qualified and experienced personal trainer, who is also currently studying for a degree in Sports Science at Salford University, and soon to become a certified kettlebell instructor.More importantly, Tim walks the walk as well as talking the talk, having been one of, if not the top performing Primal member for over a year! In addition to fitness training, Tim is also a keen participator in numerous sports including martial arts, tough guy events and any other challenges that come his way.Tim will be both teaching classes, and offering his personal training services in the gym from the end September/beginning of October.2) Time table revisionHaving listened to your feedback, we have decided to keep Friday mornings on the timetable on a trial basis until the end of the year. Providing we get sufficient numbers (An average of 6 or more people before 10am), we will reintroduce them on a permanent basis. If the numbers do not reach these levels, however, we will instigate the 10am start from January.3) Kettlebell CourseJust a reminder that due to the kettlebell course on Saturday 18th September, the gym will be closed for the day. The classes will run as normal, though the bodyweight class will be done outdoors, and may involve some running. That's it for now, keep an eye out for the next full newsletter at the end of the month.Simon

Rock Over Climbing
...

Rock Over ClimbingPrimal Fitness is all about replicating ancestral movement and activity patterns. In my last news letter I covered the importance of spending time walking and moving at low intensity, in addition to the heavy lifting, sprinting, throwing and jumping that we do in the gym.Another fundamental activity that would have been regularly performed by our ancestors was climbing. Humans evolved as nomadic hunter gatherers, and the task of finding new areas to live and hunt would surely have involved a significant amount of climbing and scrambling.Unfortunately, in modern society, the need to climb is all but eliminated. At best we occasionally climb stairs and ladders, but in many cases even these have been replaced with escalators and lifts! This is a shame as climbing is a fantastic workout, combining all the elements of fitness that Primal Training looks to develop - Strength, Endurance, Balance, Flexibility, Agility, Grip and Skill.I was very happy to find out, therefore, that a new bouldering wall, www.rockoverclimbing.com has just opened up around the corner from Primal, literally two minutes away! Bouldering is the most Primal form of climbing, requiring no special kit such as ropes and harnesses. The routes are short and intense just like Primal workouts (though there are routes to suit all abilities), similar to the routes that would have been climbed by our forebears in search of food and shelter.I called down to check the place out and meet with the owner Tom last week and was very impressed with the set up.Tom has even put together a special offer for all Primal members:1) A half price induction, during which includes a 1 hour bouldering lesson, hire of shoes, plus you can stay and practice after for as long as you like. (#156;7.50 instead of #156;15.00)2) Free Life Membership, getting you discounted entry every time you climb! To take advantage of this offer, all you have to do is call or email to book your placeCall 07754805907Email info@rockoverclimbing.comSee you down there!
